Cynthia was born and raised in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She graduated from Drake University and completed graduate work at the University of Iowa, earning degrees in Spanish and English. Her lifelong love of language and teaching took her to high schools in Iowa, Venezuela, Colorado, and Texas. She continues to teach Spanish to a small group of women each week.

Cynthia’s passion for fabric art and handmade creations began in 1962, when her parents took her to Mexico. She fell in love with Mexican artesanía, especially its beautiful textile traditions.

Introduced to fabric collage by a lifelong friend, Cynthia found a creative way to combine her love of fabric, color, and storytelling. Her work is an ongoing exploration of favorite subjects and the joy of creating something by hand.
