Light Blue teapot with black flowers by Christina Bendo from Waynesville, NC

Christina Bendo

Christina Bendo grew up tending the rich red clay soil of Virginia alongside her parents, an experience that naturally led her to a craft rooted in the same earth—pottery. She earned her B.A. from the University of Mary Washington before completing a three-year assistantship with potter Trista Chapman. Her journey in ceramics has taken her to residencies at LibertyTown Arts Workshop, the International Ceramics Studio in Hungary, STARworks Ceramics, the North Carolina Pottery Center, and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. In 2019, she established her own studio in downtown Waynesville, North Carolina.

Christina’s pottery explores the relationship between daily rituals and the ever-changing rhythms of nature. She draws inspiration from the shifting seasons, reflecting on how a familiar form—like a pie plate or a serving tray—can capture fleeting moments, from the first ramps of spring to the peak of the strawberry harvest. Her work is a meditation on time and tradition, echoing the potters of centuries past who shaped vessels while anticipating the bounty of the land. Whether cradling a morning cup of tea or serving a meal shared with friends, her pots hold the quiet stories of life’s seasonal cycles, turning ephemeral experiences into tangible, lasting forms.
